The Last Monday in April, Xiaohong called Ding Yaping to say that she had two extra tickets to a performance at the Grand Theater, so I jumped at the chance to go. Wow! If you've been following this blog, you've already seen it. It turns out that this was the opening performance of
The 31st Shanghai Spring International Music Festival. The artists were former winners of the Golden Bell awards, and performed with a full orchestra. Many of these were singers with strong operatic backgrounds. Others played folk instruments. There was one piano player, who was excellent. We were a little early, so we took some photos of nearby buildings.
Thank you, Xiaohong for a wonderful evening.
AND HERE IS THE THEATER

Here's the Grand Theater, exactly as it name proclaims: Grand! |
Looking down into the lobby and up toward the entrances to the balconies. |
Like the boxes in Seattle's Benaroya Hall, but Benaroya's boxes extend toward the balcony. |
At the conclusion of the performance. |
Did Picasso design musical instruments too? |
Not your traditional Chinese art, is it? |
And a flyer with the performers.
